While extremely common, back pain is not normal. Not only is it not a natural part of living or aging, it is highly treatable. Low back pain affects 85% of adults at some time in their lives. Many of those people will turn to medication or even surgery. However, the body is inherently cooperative and chiropractic care is uniquely poised to offer relief from back pain. When you consider that the low back supports the weight of the upper body and provides mobility for everyday motions such as bending and twisting, it might not be surprising that things can get out of alignment from time to time. Furthermore, muscles in the low back are responsible for flexing and rotating the hips while walking, as well as supporting the spinal column. Nerves in the low back supply sensation and power the muscles in the pelvis, legs, and feet.

But truly, the back is a highly functioning structure and most acute low back pain results from injury to the muscles, ligaments, joints, or discs. The body also reacts to injury by initiating an inflammatory healing response. While inflammation sounds minor, it can cause severe pain.

Savannah Torres

DPT
Savannah earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from A.T Still University in Mesa, AZ in 2015. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from New Mexico State University. Savannah has had experience in orthopedics, geriatrics, post-op rehab, sports injuries, and has treated a wide range of of conditions. She is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, has training in Dry Needling, Spinal Manipulation, Blood Flow Restriction, Graston Technique, Selective Function Movement Assessment, Mulligan Concept, and is certified in Vestibular Rehab. Savannah loves working with all types of patients but her passion is working with recovering athletes to get them back to the sport they love. Outside of work she loves traveling, staying active, spending time with her family, and attending sporting events and music festivals
